Public NotificationSystems

Lincoln County has a number of systems in place for the warning/notification of the public in the event of an emergency.  Multiple systems can be activated at the same time so as to reach the greatest portion of the population in the shortest amount of time.  Some of these systems are described below:

NOAA Weather Radio is probably one of the most effective, but least understood means of public notification.  This system was originally designed to warn the public of impending severe weather, but it is not limited to severe weather alerts.  This system is often used for AMBER Alerts,
public health issues (such as water boil orders), and any other event that warrants public notification in a timely manner.  These radios can be purchased and most electronics stores and are relatively inexpensive.

CodeRED is an advanced notification service that Lincoln County implemented in 2009, and can send notification by phone, text, and email simultaneously.  CodeRED allows emergency personnel to target notifications based on geographic location.  If an event is only going to affect a small area, the CodeRED provides for easy notification of this small area.  If the entire county needs notification, the system can do that as well.  All landline records are updated every November.  Cell phone and email information may be entered and/or updated by individuals by clicking the CodeRED link above or on our home page.
